Program Overview

By choosing to study bioscience at Acadia, you'll explore a rapidly growing field that combines your interests in biology and chemistry. The program focuses on real-world learning and professional skills, and includes business courses, industry connections, and 12 months of co-op placements.

We've created a program that's true to our roots in the Annapolis Valley. Our local area is home to growing beverage and biopharma industries, from vineyards and craft breweries to diagnostics and drug development. We incorporate these industries into the classroom by bringing in local industry professionals. You'll examine and solve research problems from the industry and build projects using current biotechnology practices.

Hands-on learning will be a crucial part of your time at Acadia. You will:

  • study foundational laboratory science courses that feature 3-hour weekly labs
  • gain 12 months of paid workplace experience through mandatory co-op placements
  • take field trips to nearby industry sites as well as local beverage producers
  • explore opportunities working in the field, labs, and with research partners

After you graduate, you'll be prepared to work in the life sciences sector in a variety of roles, and you'll enter the job market with industry experience, practical skills, and a minor in Business Administration. Applied Bioscience can also be a foundation for most careers in health science professions (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, etc.), education, and more.
