Explore the aquatic environment, its importance in understanding climate change, and how to monitor and protect marine and freshwater species in a sustainable manner.

The aquatic realm makes up more than 70 per cent of the Earth’s surface and represents the largest domain on earth. This course focuses on the study of the fascinating diversity of life contained in these habitats.

You’ll come to appreciate the issues involved in management of aquatic resources and learn how a firm understanding of the organisation of aquatic ecosystems can promote use in a sustainable manner.

Aquatic habitats and organisms are also pivotal in the understanding of climatic change making this course very relevant to a career in conservation and environmental protection.

    Merit-Based Scholarship for Indian Postgraduate Students

    Students applying to eligible postgraduate (PG) programmes who have achieved 70% or above in their qualifying qualification will now be eligible for an additional £1,000 Merit-Based Scholarship.
    This scholarship can be combined with our existing scholarship and payment benefits:
    • £1,000 Merit-Based Scholarship (for students with 70%+)
    • £3,000 South Asia Scholarship for eligible 1-year postgraduate programmes*
    • £1,000 South Asia Scholarship for eligible 2-year postgraduate programmes*
    • £500 Early Payment Discount for students who pay their full tuition fees at least one month prior to the course start date
    This means eligible postgraduate students can receive savings of up to £4,500, depending on their programme and payment timeline.

    About the scholarship

    We have a limited number of scholarships for self-funding students from South Asia starting a course at Edinburgh Napier in June 2026, September 2026 or January 2027.

    For postgraduate students, the scholarship is awarded for one academic year. We offer a £3,000 scholarship for one year courses, and £1,000 for two year courses.
    For undergraduate students, the scholarship is £2,000. Applicants domiciled in Nepal, Sri Lanka or Bangladesh are eligible to receive this award from the first year of study. Applicants domiciled in India can receive the scholarship for each year of their degree, subject to successful progression, up to a maximum total of £8,000 (GBP).

    Please note: All scholarships are subject to availability. We have a limited number of awards, so not all eligible applicants will be successful in receiving a scholarship. 

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this award, you must be: 

    • living in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal at the time of application 
    • self-funding your course 
    • holding an offer to study a full-time, on campus bachelor or taught masters course in June 2026, September 2026 or January 2027

    For bachelor courses, you must also achieve the following academic requirements: 

    • 60% or above in the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) or cumulative grade point average (CGPA) for top up student 

    Please note – If you have discounted tuition fees from a partner university or are in receipt of another scholarship, you are not eligible for this scholarship. MRes programmes are not eligible for this award.
