Youngstown State University Overview

Youngstown State University (YSU) is a public university established in 1908. It was accredited by the North Central Association in 1944. The University is composed of 5 undergraduate colleges. At YSU, undergraduate students have more than 100 majors to choose from. The public university also offers a variety of programs for graduate students through the YSU business school, education school and departments of nursing and physical therapy, among other departments.

The university has more than 125,000 alumni across the country and around the world. Outside of class, there are about 140 student organizations to consider joining, including fraternities and sororities, as well as the Youngstown State Penguins sports teams, which compete in the NCAA Division I Horizon League.

The university’s prime vision is to provide a promising future to its students by giving them an education that would equip them to face the challenges of the business world.

YSU is conveniently nestled in a 160-acre campus located in the city centre in Northeastern Ohio between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. YSU is noted for its unique landscaping, which is unlike from that of many other urban universities. YSU's geographical centre has a park-like atmosphere, featuring a rather-hilly terrain and a variety of trees and plant life, as well as tables and chairs that surround a campus fountain. At YSU, students have the best of both worlds because they get to experience the excitement of city living and the security of a traditional college campus.
